Mueller Sports Medicine Holds Clean-Up Cure For Staph

Cleaner & Disinfectant Kills Drug-Resistant MRSA Strain

As media attention surrounding MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) escalates, a Wisconsin sports medicine company has the solution to killing the deadly bacteria on hard, non-porous surfaces.

Mueller Sports Medicine, perhaps better known for its Quench® Gum and the black anti-glare strips worn by football players, has been manufacturing Whizzer® Cleaner & Disinfectant for over 40 years. Whizzer®, a concentrated disinfectant, kills the staph—including the drugresistant MRSA—when sprayed on hard surfaces.

Following the death of a 17-year-old high school student from MRSA, attention turned to disinfecting schools, hospitals and other public places. While many news outlets are recommending cleaning with bleach and water solutions, Gina Accola, Mueller’s Director of Quality Systems says that Whizzer® is the better alternative because it has been tested on specific organisms. “We’ve conducted testing on the specific viruses, organisms, bacteria and fungi that we’re talking about today,” Accola says. “We know that Whizzer® kills it all. Plus, it’s a really good cleaner.”

University of Wisconsin Sports Medicine Head Athletic Trainer Dennis Helwig agrees. “We worry about a combination of fumes from multiple cleaning products. That’s why a product like Whizzer® is the product to use rather than a bleach solution.”

Whizzer®, which also kills the AIDS virus, Hepatitis B & C and fungus germs on contact, is recommended for use on door knobs, walls, workout equipment, training tables and any hard surface that may come into contact with the bacteria.
